We’re calling Dibs on Dips!

‘Good food defines the success of every occasion’ – a mantra that Mumbai based start up, Dibs on Dips swears by. Founder and Chef Mausam Shah says “My love for dips began at home. Using my mother as an inspiration who would whip up dips as a replacement for boring home snacks, I believed that whatever I ate would have to be interesting and hence making dips soon became a ritual at home. With my mother as my idol and my brother as my food critic, Dibs on Dips was born”.

Mausam recently sent over some dips for me to try.

The dips arrived in the cutest packaging with a lovely note. A small personal touch always goes a long way. The care taken to package also reflected the love with which they had been prepared 🙂

The dips I tried were:

1. Spicy Jalapeno
2. Creamy Sundried Tomato and Basil
3. Cheesy Onion and
4. Aglio e Olio

Each bottle also mentions what these dips are best enjoyed with and the expiry date.

My personal favourites were the Spicy Jalapeno and Creamy Sundried Tomato & Basil. I might warn you that once you start digging into these two, it may be hard to stop. I’m not big on anything that’s spicy and this one will set your tongue on fire after a point, but it is SO worth it! Pair it with a salted cracker or some breadsticks and you’re good to go.

The Creamy Sundried Tomato can be eaten with anything. Lavash, breadsticks, apply it on toast, like I said, just about anything. The perfect flavour of sundried tomatoes and just enough basil, this one will make all your parties at home uber popular.

I thought the Aglio e Olio was a little strong, so instead of eating it with anything else, I used it the next afternoon to make pasta and it was perfect.

Recipe: Banana Flour Smoothie

If there are many of you out there like me who thought that banana flour tastes exactly like a banana and is set out to ruin every dessert, well it’s safe to say we’re all wrong. It tastes nothing like that! Banana flour is a gluten-free substitute to wheat flours and is made of unripened green bananas.

I cannot vouch for these seeing as this is my first time working with the ingredient but it is known to have the following benefits:
– It contains resistant starch, a type of carb that acts like fibre
– It helps control blood sugar levels
– Keeps us feeling fuller, longer
– Healthy way to carb cravings

A good friend recently sent over a packet of Kadhali Raw Banana Flour to test out recipes – http://www.mystiqueconfections.com/kadhali/

I’m still trying to perfect a dessert recipe so do bear with me until I can come up with one but in the meantime, here’s a delicious fruit smoothie. It’s extremely filling and is a great option either an hour before a workout, or immediately after one.

Ingredients:

3 tbsp banana flour
1/2 cup diced strawberries
1/4 cup sliced bananas
1/4 cup mixed berries
1 tbsp chia seeds
6-8 cubes ice
3/4 cup chilled almond milk/skimmed milk

Method:

  1. Blend all the ingredients together and consume chilled! That’s all !
